What is the turnaround time?
To analyze for an
unknown mutation in a proband, turnaround time is four to ten weeks.
RB1 mutation analysis for a bilateral blood or unilateral tumor is often complete within four weeks,
but may take up to ten weeks.
RB1 mutation analysis of blood from an isolated unilateral proband,
without tumor available for testing, usually takes ten weeks.
For a known mutation (relatives of a proband), analysis takes between two and four weeks.
Please note:
-
Not all cases analyzed lead to causal diagnosis. In approximately 5% of bilateral bloods
or unilateral tumors, no RB1 mutation can be found after exhaustive testing by our molecular
methods. Payment in full is nonetheless required for all cases, even those for which the RB
mutation cannot be identified.
-
We accept prenatal samples, such as cultured amniocytes or CVS samples, to test for
known familial mutations, and report on these within ten days of sample receipt.
Reports
Within one month of test completion, two copies of the report are sent to the referring specialist.
The report describes any mutation(s) identified, the effect and significance of any mutations, clinical
recommendations for the patient and family members, and any further recommended testing.
